The following is a list of the Articles of Faith, the pillars upon which Islam is built as communicated through the Qur’an. Your responsibility in this blog is to explain how SIX different elements of the Articles of Faith are demonstrated using various verses found in the Qur’an. Students MAY NOT duplicate verses used by other bloggers in their initial post!

God:
There is only one God with no associate or partner. All that happened in the past, is happening now and is going to happen in the future is by the will of God.

The Angels:
Angels are created from light and execute the commands of God without question.

The Books of God:
These include the Torah, the Psalms of David, The Gospel revealed to Jesus and the Qurān.

Prophets of God:
There were thousands of prophets who preached Godmessage. Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet for all humanity and completed the message of God.

Day of Judgment:
On this day, all mankind will be raised back to life and judged by God. Those whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds will be allowed to  enter Paradise and those whose bad deeds outweigh their good deeds will be condemned to Hell except whom God has mercy on.

Divine Decree:
Gods predestination of all things and events and His Decree. Nothing in the universe can occur without the knowledge of God. Whatever He  desires, it occurs and whatever He does not desire, it doesnt occur. There is no power or any movement except by God.

Life after Death:
The eternal life in Paradise where one will be rewarded for living a righteous life on Earth, or the fire of Hell where one will be punished for  the evil that one committed.

Comments

  1. Life after death:

In all three of the major monotheistic religions there are conceptions of an after life. All three concepts are similar and seem to stem from the Hindu ideal of karma. If one lives a good and righteous life then their soul will enjoy a good after life, but if one lives not righteously and commits sin and evil then their soul will be sent to a bad place and their afterlife will be bad.

"... they who seek gain in evil and are girt round by their sin,-- they are companions of the Fire: Therein shall they abide (For Ever)"(2:81) Those who live a life of destruction and hatred will live an after life where they are punished for their deeds. Similar to Christian Hell.

"But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the Garden: Therein shall they abide (For Ever)."(2:82) Those who live in accordance with Allah and lead a righteous life well be rewarded and enjoy a pleasant after life in the Garden. Similar to Christian Heaven.

  3. God
In Islam God is know as Allah “He is Allah, the One and Only” (chapter 112:1), which means The God and it is related to El and Elah the Hebrew and Aramaic words for God, and is different that it's word for deity, which is ilah. That is a monotheistic religion and it’s god is the same as the one in Christianity and Judaism. In the Qu’ran they also explain things of the Judaism and the Christianity and in it explain that Christ is only a messenger and not God, he is a normal human like the rest of them. Allah didn’t explain it well for the humans and some of them confuse his message lost themselves following something wrong “Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!”(chapter 5:75).

For Islam, God is unique and he’s the creator of the universe, he is the first one, the all-powerful and all-knowing, he is neither material or spiritual, the Qu’ran say that “Allah is Eternal and Absolute;” (chapter 112:2). And the Islam and the Qu’ran empathize that he is strictly singular on the universe “And there is none like Him” (chapter 112:4).

  4. Angels

In Islam, angels are celestial beings, created from a luminious origin by God to perform certain tasks he has given them.“Praise be to Allah, Who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels, messengers with wings,− two, or three, or four (pairs): He adds to Creation as He pleases: for Allah has power over all things.” (Chapter 35:1)

The angels are emissaries and helpers of God and they follow all his orders. The angels had different functions; Some of them help Allah to punish humans “Nay, thunder repeateth His praises, and so do the angels, with awe: He flingeth the loud−voiced thunder−bolts, and therewith He striketh whomsoever He will..yet these (are the men) who (dare to) dispute about Allah, with the strength of His power (supreme)!”(chapter 13:13). Angels also take humans souls “By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;”(chapter 79:1).

Also, there are some “fallen angels” who try to corrupt the humans teaching them things like magic or discord “the evil ones gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men Magic, and such things as came down at babylon to the angels Harut and Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!” (Chapter 2:102).These quote explain how these two fallen angels trick humans to make them go far from Allah, start to sin and sell their souls to these “angels”.

Other angels are God messengers like the one that appear in front of Mary “Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee− chosen thee above the women of all nations.” (Chapter 3:42).

  5. Divine Decree:

"To him is due te primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: 'Be,' and it is." (2:117)

In the Quran it is said that Allah is all powerful. His will is reality and he is the creator and destroyer of all. All motions of the world are set by him.

  6. Prophets of God:

“It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
    ”(3:3)

In this verse of the Qu’ran there is reference to prophets of Allah prior to Muhammed. Moses and Jesus we’re both directed by Allah to bring his message to humanity. Allah is the origin of right and wrong. Muhammed was the last of the Prophets of Allah. The other two major monotheistic religions base their belief around the other two prophets. Christianity around Jesus, and Judaism around Moses.

  7. Prophets of God
The Islam religion has a lot of prophets who teach the words of God, and who explain how to life to go to the heaven. Prophets appear in different religions and in Islam the most important one is Muhammad, the last prophet who completed the message of God.

For the biggest three monotheistic religions the most important prophets are the same. Also the Islamic religion believes in Jesus as other prophet, no different from any other human and no like God or his son. “Say ye: ‘We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam).’” (Chapter 2:136)

Muhammad was choosing by Allah to preached His message, and for that he send the angel Jibreel to Muhammad. He is the founder force of Islam and he brought the words of Allah to find a new way to follow God , but he is only a messenger “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things.” (Chapter 33:40). and he didn’t want to be know as a father or something more than that. The Qu’ran emphasizes that he is only a messenger in all the holy book “Muhammad is no more than a messenger: many Were the messenger that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will ye then Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah; but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude.” (Chapter 3:144).

  8. Day of judgment
The Qu’ran say “Verily thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment, in the matters wherein they differ (among themselves)”(chapter 32:25), That means that this day God will judge all the people in the Earth and he will send good humans to Paradise and bad people to Hell ,except the ones he had mercy of.“And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment.” (Chapter 26:82).

In the Qu’ran this day is mentioning in more than one time “Again, on the Day of Judgment, will ye be raised up.”(Chapter 23:16), and they are different explanation about what is going to happen to good and bad people that day; “He will go before his people on the Day of Judgment, and lead them into the Fire (as cattle are led to water): But woeful indeed will be the place to which they are led!”(Chapter 11:98), also Allah is going to judge or humans sins “The Sabbath was only made (strict) for those who disagreed (as to its observance); But Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment, as to their differences.” (Chapter 16:124).

  9. Day of judgement:

“And fear the Day when ye shall be brought back to Allah. Then shall every soul be paid what it earned, and none shall be dealt with unjustly. ”(2:281)

The day of judgement is when Allah pays back every one for the deeds of their life. Allah is wise and fair no one receives unjust payment. A man of holiness and devotion to Allah will be judged so and rewarded, while a man who leads an evil and hateful life will be treated as so and punished accordingly.

  10. Divine decree
In Islam, they have the belief of God knowing everything, all good and bad, pleasure and pain, come from God. “On no soul doth Allah Place a burden greater than it can bear.” (Chapter 2:286) He knows what the creatures can do and what is there limit and He never give humans something that they can’t achieve. In the Qu’ran is explained that “from Allah, nothing is hidden on earth or in the heavens”( chapter 3:5), because He controls everything and He gives humans happiness and sorrow.

“Knowest thou not that Allah knows all that is in heaven and on earth? Indeed it is all in a Record, and that is easy for Allah.” (Chapter 22:70), God creations can’t know everything in the universe or have control of it, but God who created everything and is almighty can do it that really easily.

As He created everything He has control of all the things that He created and God control them to create order and balance.“He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He who created all things, and ordered them in due proportions.” (Chapter 25:2).

  11. Angels:

“Behold! the angels said: ‘O Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee− chosen thee above the women of all nations.’
‘O Mary! worship Thy Lord devoutly: Prostrate thyself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down.’”(3:42-43)

In this Quran verse angels are sent by Allah to deliver a message to Mary. In Islam angels are subordinate to god and complete tasks for him. They are his messengers. Gabriel is the most famous and most important angel, he delivers the word of god to Muhammed who in turn sparks the Muslim religion.

  12. Life after death
In Islam, there is a belief of life after death, as in the other monotheistic religions. After death you can go to Paradise or to Hell, all depends of how do people lives their life. “Of the good that they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for Allah knoweth well those that do right.” (Chapter 3:115), “Those who reject Faith,− neither their possessions nor their (numerous) progeny will avail them aught against Allah: They will be companions of the Fire,−dwelling therein (for ever). ”(Chapter 3:116).

The humans are formed by the body and the soul, and God is the only one who can decide the destiny of the soul, as well as how and when they die “Nor can a soul die except by Allah's leave, the term being fixed as by writing. If any do desire a reward in this life, We shall give it to him; and if any do desire a reward in the Hereafter, We shall give it to him. And swiftly shall We reward those that (serve us with) gratitude.” (Chapter 3:145).

  13. The books of god:

"’We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam).’”(3:84)

In the Qu’ran Judaism and Christianity are referenced repeatedly. Followers of these religions aren’t seen as enemies but just misguided. In this verse it is explained that even if they go by different names all men follow Allah. All was given to them by Allah and the books, The Torah, The Bible, were given to them by Allah as well. Regardless of what book they follow all men willing or unwilling will bow to Allah.

  14. God
The Islamic word for God is Allah. He is very knowledgeable is supposed to be feared.
    “2:33
(...) Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heaven and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?"

    “2:115
To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all−Pervading, all−Knowing. ”

    “2:148
To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.”

    “2:191
And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.
    2:192
But if they cease, Allah is Oft−forgiving, Most Merciful.”
    Angels
The Angels are viewed as Allah’s soldiers and messengers here on Earth. Allah taught the angels how to do their jobs.
    “2:97
Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel−for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by Allah's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe,−
    2:98
Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and messengers, to Gabriel and Michael,− Lo! Allah is an enemy to those who reject Faith.”

    “2:210
Will they wait until Allah comes to them in canopies of clouds, with angels (in His train) and the question is (thus) settled? but to Allah do all questions go back (for decision).”

  15. The Books of God
The Qur’an directly translates to recitation. The Qur’an is viewed as the direct word of Allah written down by the prophet Mohammed. The Bible is viewed to be written about God not by him.
    “2:62
Those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,− any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. ”

    “2:79
Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!− Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby.”

    “2:213
Mankind was one single nation, and Allah sent Messengers with glad tidings and warnings; and with them He sent the Book in truth, to judge between people in matters wherein they differed; but the People of the Book, after the clear Signs came to them, did not differ among themselves, except through selfish contumacy. Allah by His Grace Guided the believers to the Truth, concerning that wherein they differed. For Allah guided whom He will to a path that is straight.”
    Day of judgement
The day of judgement is the day that God comes back to Earth to judge you upon your wrongdoings, sins if you will.
    “2:46
Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him.”

    “2:57
And We gave you the shade of clouds and sent down to you Manna and quails, saying: "Eat of the good things We have provided for you:" (But they rebelled); to us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.”

    “2:85
After this it is ye, the same people, who slay among yourselves, and banish a party of you from their homes; assist (Their enemies) against them, in guilt and rancour; and if they come to you as captives, ye ransom them, though it was not lawful for you to banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?− and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.”

    “2:113
The Jews say: "The Christians have naught (to stand) upon; and the Christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word is what those say who know not; but Allah will judge between them in their quarrel on the Day of Judgment.”

  16. Divine decree
The Divine Decree states that God has the final ruling about what happens to everyone and everything. It is all based upon his will.
    “2:20
The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things. ”

    “2:28
How can ye reject the faith in Allah?− seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.”

    “2:165
Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah): They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty. ”
    Life after death
In the Islamic religion, the afterlife is viewed as either a negative location or a positive one. You either reach one of the seven sectors of Heaven’s garden or you go into the fiery blaze of Hell. It all depends upon your actions and upon your intent.
    “2:25
But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say: "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever). ”

    “2:38
We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me, whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
    2:39
"But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein.”

    “2:126
And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City of Peace, and feed its people with fruits,−such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as reject Faith,−for a while will I grant them their pleasure, but will soon drive them to the torment of Fire,− an evil destination (indeed)!”
